A bit about my career thus far…
Andrew J. Koehler grew up in Queens, New York, and began performing at a very early age. Hailed by the Long Island Theatre Scene as having “both the vocal and acting chops to pull off this beloved Broadway character (Billy Flynn in Chicago),” Andrew is well-versed and comfortable in both the classical and musical theatre repertoire. To date, he has appeared in over 100 concerts/events, and over 15 appearances in plays, musicals, workshops & even has done television background work. He is a graduate of the Vocal Music Department at the Frank Sinatra School of the Arts in Astoria, NY, where he studied under Heidi Best, Thomas Sandri and Steven Kirby. Andrew holds his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Musical Theatre from SUNY Cortland, where he studied under Kevin Halpin, Deena Conley, and David Neal (Voice). Privately, he studies voice under Raquel Suarez Groen (Carlotta Giudicelli, the Phantom of the Opera), and receives coachings from Broadway Veteran Lindsay Mendez. In addition to having performed Off-Broadway, Andrew has presented his solo show MY GOLDEN AGE: SONGS FROM AN OLD SOUL at Don’t Tell Mama NYC, and at Feinstein’s/54 Below!
Andrew has been performing in New York for many years in Theatre, and Concerts alike. Currently, he is preparing to play the Baker in INTO THE WOODS. Most recently, Andrew played Alan in BARE: A POP OPERA. Concert/Festival credits include: Shubert Theatre Festival (Shubert Theatre, Frank Sinatra School of the Arts) St Matthias Christmas Concerts (under the baton of Steven Frank), A Grammy Salute To Classical Music (Carnegie Hall, Frank Sinatra School of the Arts), Sinatra at 100 (Symphony Space, Frank Sinatra School of the Arts), Lessons & Carols (the Astoria Choir). Cabaret credits include; Tuesdays at 54 Below with Robbie Rozelle (Guest, Feinstein's/54 Below), Songs Made To Sing While We're Young (Guest, Laurie Beechman Theatre), Phantom Forever (Don’t Tell Mama NYC).
Andrew also has accomplishments in the department of being a swing! In the Winter of 2024, Andrew appeared in a production of Rent in the role of Paul, and swung on in the role of Angel, with 20 minutes notice, having never rehearsed the track. In 2023, he appeared in Into The Woods, and would jump in to cover roles in rehearsals, in addition to his own as the Steward and Cinderella’s Father. These roles included Baker and Rapunzel’s Prince, and many others. In 2018, he appeared in a production of Ragtime, appearing as Henry Ford and Grandfather, and also served as a swing, covering JP Morgan, Harry Houdini, and all of the New Rochelle male ensemble tracks.
Andrew has also participated with Empower Voices Now in New York City, founded by Broadway’s Raquel Suarez Groen. Through there, he has participated in Masterclasses, Workshops and private sessions with Sierra Boggess, Joan Lader, Dan Micciche, Laird Mackintosh, Ali Ewoldt, Kaley Ann Voorhees, Natalie Weiss, Jordan Donica, Max Quinlan, Richard Carsey, Polly Baird and Cooper Grodin, among others. Recently Andrew studied the roles of “Raoul” and “the Phantom” under the tutelage of Phantom company members through Empower Voices Now in New York City!
Additionally, Andrew has participated in Masterclasses taught by Ramin Karimloo, Derek Klena, and Lindsay Mendez!
In addition to performing in various mediums, Andrew also has extensive experience in backstage crews and stage managing. He has participated in backstage crews for such shows as the Children’s Hour (Marketing), Lysistrata (Deck Crew), Head Over Heels (Spotlight Operation), Company (Set Construction), Proof (Deck Crew), Seussical (Painting, Playbill Cover, Props, and more), Cabaret (Deck Crew), Matilda (Projection/Sound Operation), Our Little Secret (Stage Manager, Playwright’s Horizons), Socky Tells All (Stage Manager, Theatre Row), No Strings Attached (Asst. Director), 2B Or Not 2B (Director), Let It Come From You (Director), Annie Jr (Director), Frozen Jr (Co-Director), A Chorus Line Jr (Director).
